This event will take us back to the basics of diabetes and its treatment. Diabetes medications are considered high-risk in the Medicare population. However, their use is still needed. During this presentation, we will discuss medications available to treat diabetes, signs and symptoms of hypo- and hyperglycemia, common adverse drug events (ADEs) and tips to prevent ADEs related to diabetes medications.

THE LEARNER WILL BE ABLE TO:

  1. Recognize common diabetes medications.
  2. Distinguish between the different types of diabetes medications.
  3. Discuss signs and symptoms of low and high blood glucose.
  4. Summarize issues that can occur with diabetes medication use in long-term care.
